It's saturday night, August 1st and my children went to their grandparents (my parent's house) for dinner and to see their cousins. Jason, his mom and I had planned to go to a wonderful steakhouse about 45 minutes from our house. About 2 miles from the Como, MS exit, my sister calls and asks "Is Jake overly dramatic when getting hurt?" I of course wanted to know what happened....to make a long story short: We turned right around and headed back to Olive Branch to my parents house to check on him. He and Will (my nephew) were jumping on the trampoline and Jake thought doing a handstand while Will was jumping would be a good idea. Needless to say, it caused him a neck injury. We took him to the pediatric urgent care, they immediately put him in a neck collar and took an x-ray. The staff felt it would be a better idea to transport him by ambulance to the children's hospital in Memphis so we were on our way........Jason and I were pretty calm but apparently scared. Watching them strap my lil man to a hard board, strapping his arms, legs down and taping his head to the board was nerve wracking enough. I began to shake....it never dawned on me that he could move one way with a fractured neck could leave him paralyzed....thank God at this time I wasn't thinking too hard!! I was more worried about having two vertebrae's fractured and having to have surgery. Of course, I began to pray and ask my Lord to protect my lil man and to give me, Jason, all of our family peace in the midst of the scare. When we got to the hosptial, they immediately took him to the triage area and began to evaluate him and get vitals. JAKE WAS SUCH A LIL TROOPER!!! He was even using his manners which made mom and dad gleam with joy. He never complained, whimpered, whined, griped, cried, or gave us any problems. He listened and did everything everyone told him. To make light of the situation, he kept shaking his head to answer all the questions being asked and we had to laugh because he just couldn't help it. The doctor came over to evaluate him literally from head to toe, she looked at the x-rays taken at the clinic and came over to tell us to "take a breath, I believe there are no fractures but I want to get a few more views to be completely sure." Praise the Lord there were NO FRACTURES!!!! A whiplash diagnosis it was.....It was quite a scare!!! We have a wonderful support group of family and friends that uplifted us in prayer and expressed lots of concern!!! :)
